Sir,

Heal Quarters, China Command,

Hongkong, 12th. May, 1916)

REC?

I have the honour to forward for Your Imellency's

information the Annual Report on the Hongkong Volunteer Corps and

also that of the Volunteer Reserve.

2.

I have taken many opportunities of inspecting these two bodies at their various branches of training and I consider

them both in an efficient condition and fit to bear their part in

the defence of the Colony.

3.

My most important inspection was held in December

last when the Reserves were mabilised on their defences in field

service marching order on the 18th. of that month, and the Volun-

-teers on the 19th. I found all ranks on the alert and acquainted

with their duties.

4.

Both Corps have afforded great assistance to the Garrison in taking the guard duties mentioned in the Reports and the services of the gigeer Company in running the Electric Search

Lights have been of special value.

5.

I have caused certain minor remarks and suggestions

for improvement to be communicated to the two Commanding Officers.

I have etc..

His Excellency

Ms Sir F. H. May, K.C.M.G.,

Governor,&c..

(Sd.) F. Ventria,

Major-General,

Commanding the Troops in China.
